A quieter mountain adventure

Mount Meru follows the same trail up and down, starting at approximately 1,500 metres above sea level. The 4-day itinerary gives you a separate final descent day, while the 3-day option continues all the way to the gate after returning from the summit.

Three-day Mount Meru itinerary

Day01

Day 1 → Gate to Miriakamba Camp

Start at the Mount Meru gate at approximately 1,500 metres. Choose the longer 14 km trail, taking around six hours, or the shorter 10 km trail, taking roughly four to five hours. Overnight at Miriakamba Camp at approximately 2,500 metres.

Day 2 → Miriakamba to Saddle Camp

Walk 7 km from Miriakamba Camp to Saddle Camp at approximately 3,500 metres. The climb takes around three and a half to four hours. In the evening, walk to Little Meru at approximately 3,820 metres for acclimatisation, then return to camp and rest before the midnight summit departure.

Day 3 → Summit and descent to the gate

Climb approximately 6 km from Saddle Camp to the summit of Mount Meru, taking around six hours. After the summit, descend to Saddle Camp in about three hours, continue to Miriakamba Camp in another two to two and a half hours, and then walk all the way to the gate in roughly three to three and a half hours. This makes the final day long and demanding, but the trek is completed in three days without another overnight stay.

Three days or four days?

Both options use the same mountain route. On the 3-day trek, you descend from the summit area all the way to the gate on the final day. The 4-day trek includes an overnight return to Miriakamba Camp and a shorter descent on day four.
